Sound healing can be defined as the intentional use of sound or music to bring about enhanced states of wellness in our physical, emotional, mental, or spiritual being.  Therapists and clinicians are using it, because sound healing works.  Sound methods vary from the simple use of music for relaxation or invigoration, to tuning forks, technological devices, drumming, crystal bowls, chanting, and ‘toning.’

Sound is the vibrational nature of our human structure, from our energetic (subtle) bodies, to our physiological and sub-atomic form.  Modern physics is, more and more, coming to the same conclusions that ancient mystics have shared with us for thousands of years; the nature of the cosmos is vibration.  Nada Brahma:  All is Sound.

Through the Gateway

Modern science has shown that in the human body, auditory nerves are linked to our sense of proportion and balance, and have the power to shift our energy to the "center," bringing about a feeling of connection and serenity. Long ago, the human nervous system was not fully understood - but with intuitive wisdom, healers and shamans of many cultures correctly sensed that listening to vibrational sound helps us access these auditory nerves in a way which may increase receptivity to healing energy. They knew sounds and music could induce trance states to help identify illness, and even open gateways for new healing energy to flow through. Healers of old, as of today, were concerned with body, mind or soul. The more enlightened of them worked to integrate all three.

The Future: Healing with Sound

The magic of "musical medicine", harmonic medicine, will come into its own.  The application of the healing potency will not be limited to the mind and body, but will be an agency for the building and healing of the soul.  Sound medicine will use specific rhythms to stimulate the vital currents of the head center, and to aid in the development of extended sight and hearing.  Possessing these faculties, a practitioner will be able to hear the tones of the subtle energy bodies, and if any are out of harmony, to prescribe the corrective measures....Sound is the mysterious key of memory, unlocking the hoarded treasures of the heart.  The rhythm of the human heart is attuned to the keynote of the indwelling spirit.  The more soulful a person becomes, the more rhythmic is his heart action.  The materialistic thinking of our present civilization has brought with it a heavy harvest of heart, and finds its echoes in the pulsing of the blood, in the currents of the nervous system, and in the circulatory and fluid functions of the body.  The human body is an orchestra, each organ an instrument.  We resound with the heavenly harmonics....I believe that, in the coming years, the most important and successful of all therapeutic methods will be sound.
